GRADE 1

Country Fire Authority (CFA)

Grade One visited the CFA mobile van when it came to our school last week and they were involved in the Fire Safe Kids’ program. The CFA is a volunteer and community based fire and emergency service.

The students had fun learning some simple rules about fire safety.

They were able to recognise fire hazards indoors and understand the reasons for the presence of smoke detectors in their homes and what action they need to take immediately on hearing its sound in an emergency i.e. knowing their escape plan.

Smoke detectors need to be cleaned and checked every month to ensure they are working and batteries should be replaced every year.

Some of the students’ thoughts on their time in the CFA mobile van were:

Mohamad Chkhaydem

I liked it when they showed us how to be safe. If a fire comes, we bob down and yell ‘Fire! Fire! Fire!”

Sajad Alramahi

I liked the part when we had to go down onto the floor and crawl quickly to the outside. We do that when there is a fire.

Hamzah Ahmad

We do not go into a fire because it is dangerous. The fireman is protected and he can go into the fire.

Sahar Quwat

I liked it when we were screaming “Fire! Fire! Fire!” and we went under pretend smoke.

Zainab Syeda

I liked it when we played the game of escaping from the fire and calling out “Fire! Fire! Fire!”

Awwaab Shaikh

When there is a fire in my house, I should leave and ask the neighbours to call the fire brigade.

Zaynab Alasadi

I liked it when the fireman told us to get down on the floor when there is a fire and yell “Fire! Fire! Fire!”
